While many people have spoken about the issues of social media they continue using it recklessly and making many think images are important. Users of social media understand that people may post for opinions, viewings, likes, etc from others. While this may boost self-esteem there are many users, often referred to as “haters” who find themselves being bullies towards people of all ages. Many people may think that social media is all fun and games but it could be making people insecure about who they are and believing they need to be perfect to be liked.
Cyber bullying some might say is overused and talked about too much. Sadly there is no way this is true because it continues being a topic that must be looked at differently. It’s not only about people just not liking someone and trying to take out anger on victims but that social media can make the bully “popular” or liked by others.
Many people feel intimated and less confident about what they look like through social media. Our bodies, faces, races, sexuality are often talked about making us feel not as good as celebrities. We should begin to spread positive vibes through these medias.
Lydia, this topic is a very intriguing one, I believe social media has become a platform that is being used for reasons other than its original intended purpose. I believe it has become a symbol of status and presents an opportunity for cyberbullying to occur. I believe that social media has changed the way we judge others, especially the ones we don’t know and I also believe that it can be a very inaccurate depiction of who someone is in real life. However, I do believe that this image of self that people put online is a positive innovation to society. If you look at it in a different light, social media is our way of self expression. People can portray their creativity and who they are in an effort to “advertise” themselves as a sort of product that others may want to connect to. I believe this aspect of social media must be looked at, however I do agree with the negative aspects that you have listed in your post. Thank you for sharing and I hope this helps!

Hey lidia i totally agree about everything you are saying.I too feel like social media is a place where it can make you feel insecure because you don’t look a certain way.I also agree that people use social media as platform to make other kids feel bad about anything.I believe that you should be able to post what you feel and people should keep their negative,dumb comments to them selves.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is:“While many people have spoken about the issues of social media they continue using it recklessly and making many think images are important.” I think this is so true because we have always been receiving lectures about bullying and cyberbullying since we were very little yet people continue to bully each other on the internet thinking that since they are behind a screen, they will not get in trouble for their actions.
Another sentence that I agreed with was:“Many people feel intimated and less confident about what they look like through social media.” This stood out for me because nowadays, beauty standards are a lot higher considering celebrities and the amount of makeup people use on a regular basis.

So, even though the platforms let people communicate with each other this can also lead to other people to hate on people they don’t even know.

I am intrigued by your position on social media as most of our age worships it. Though some may say it is an escape or a way of life, to others, as you explained, it may be a source of bullying. Social Media has destroyed more lives than helped. I believe something should be done about this. What do you think?
I enjoyed reading what you thought about social media and I find that I agree with you. I do think that social media has made people much more self conscience of what they look like or what they identify as. I wanted to ask how you think one should handle something like cyber bullying or feeling insecure about yourself on social media. What do you think should be the correct response to something as severe as bullying on a website? What is somethings not to do?
