In the article, “Why does the U.S. Have so Many Mass shootings? Research Is Clear: Guns” (Fisher and Keller 2017) I learned that America is a more lethal country because of its large amount of firearms. Background of a Violent Society? Racial division? Mental health issues in America? All these are speculated reasons behind the root of violence in America. Although these reasons make sense they have been proven to be false. Research has debunked the root of violence in America is not because of its violent society, racial division, or mental health issues but the fact that the U.S. has an enormous amount of guns.
America has a higher gun culture compared to other states, there’s a lot of guns and they are too easily accessible. This is an issue since the wrong person is able to get their hand on one with limited restrictions making gun violence more bound to happen. Other states have experienced the horror of gun violence and responded with gun control laws. Britain for example and these laws turn out to be successful but things are quite the opposite in America. There seems to be a divide among the people so we must work together and establish these laws for the greater good for all of humanity and the future, safety, and well being of our children.
As I continue to learn about Gun violence In America, I want to know more about why people kill, lack of love? Compassion? No sense of morality in violence.
Dear Roy,
Your post made me think about how if gun restrictions were put in place would it stop the violence. For example, when you mentioned Great Britain there is still violence happening without guns, so are guns really the problem. Something I wonder is are the guns the problem or is it the people who use them to harm others.
Sincerely,
Juan
Dear Roy,
i found it interesting how you mentioned how america is the highest country with firearms and how most people have a story with guns. I feel like people kill because they lack mental stability and lack knowledge.
