aerial view photography of sand dune

I’m from New York, from the park next to the deli on the corner

where almost everybody knows each other.

I’m from a Dominican family, from  Santiago and La Vega,

where we love to dance and have fun.

I’m from rice, chicken, and beans.

From playing Smash Bros on the Wii, and watching the Mets (my grandpa loves them) AND the Yankees (he was devastated when my brother became a fan).

I’m from C’mere!

From the know-it-alls and the arguers, and the relatively relaxed,

from my mom, and my  dad, and my great-grandma who lived to be 104.

I’m from a family that believes “knowledge is power”

That’s where I’m from.
