I’m from Oakland

I’m from the “deep east”

From gun shots and sideshows

From kids dying and mammas crying

From tragedy and no recovery

I come from a good home though

From where my

From where she does for me my brothers and fam

Mann my mom don’t get easy but she can do what any man can

My moms my inspiration without her I would have no determination

For the goals I have

Or For my dreams

From tragedy and no recovery

From kids dying and mammas crying

From gun shots and sideshows

I’m from the “deep east”

I’m from Oakland

Phatima,
I found your poem both insightful and inspiring. Because I come from a very different place, reading your writing gave me a hint of a new perspective. I also admire how much you respect and look up to your mother. Your determination to defy the norm of “tragedy and no recovery” is so inspiring.

I would just like to say that I very much enjoyed this poem. It was very raw and true. Loved it soo much.
