This multimedia presentation was created to show the importance of people of the LGBTQ+ community having the right to healthcare without being discriminated against. This topic is important to me because I have heard about discrimination against this community many times on the news and I don’t believe this is acceptable because I believe we should all accept each other for our differences. In America, you must have healthcare coverage. However, it is possible to be discriminated against in any service. If you become a doctor working in a public practice, then you should understand that there are people that are different from you or different that the people you would normally associate yourself with. With that being said, it is not okay to discriminate against a specific group of people or deny someone treatment because they are different, especially when your job your job could affect their life. Working in a healthcare facility means you help provide people with care and resources to help them feel better, or at least try.
Doctors being able to discriminate against people by being able to deny people treatment they need based on personal beliefs can put many people of the LGBTQ+ community at risk because they won’t receive proper medical treatment. No matter your sexual preference, you are susceptible to getting a STI and you need a doctor to help you treat this. If doctors are not willing to treat LGBTQ+ patients, those patients could be put at a health risk because of the variations of diseases and the dangers they do to your body. This problem isn’t just with doctors. Many people of the LGBTQ+ community don’t have healthcare coverage because insurance companies don’t want to cover them because of the stigma that LGBTQ+ people are more susceptible to STI’s, but this shouldn’t be. Many hospitals and doctors don’t take patients without healthcare coverage in the first place.
