In the article, “The Opioid Crisis,” by Patricia Smith I have learned that there have been many deaths from overdosing. In a 12 month period there have been over 100,000 people who have died from overdosing. These numbers have been increasing significantly over the past years doubling since 2015. There have been more Americans who have been dying from overdosing than dying from “car crashes and gun fatalities combined.” Most of these deaths have come from people who are ages 25-55. Fentanyl is a painkiller in which people add secretly to illegally manufactured drugs in which it can include counterfeit pills.

I think that overdosing is a huge problem here in the U.S. because of the amount of deaths that there has been. People should be more aware of where they are getting their medication from and if it’s the correct one. It’s not right to be taking medication given from other people because you don’t know what it can include and what it can do to you.

How do you think overdosing can be reduced?

Dear Adrian,

Your post, “The Problem of Overdose” has caught my attention because overdose in drugs and deaths from that is a big problem in America. Overdose is a dangerous addiction to drugs and people should be more aware of it. There is currently a War against Drugs from the Federal government and hopefully they are making progress.

One sentence that stands out is that “People should be more aware of where they are getting their medication from and if it’s the correct one. It’s not right to be taking medication given from other people because you don’t know what it can include and what it can do to you.” I agree to this because you don’t want to receive drugs from an unknown source unless you’re doing something illegal. Go to a local pharmacy for prescription pills or a doctor to take care of the overdose.

Thanks for this post, it is good to bring attention to this issue since this has been going on since the 70’s. This is a good way to take care of yourself by acknowledging the dangers of overdosing from drugs.
