This article outlines problems with the way we understand the opioid crisis in terms of our current solutions and why they are ineffective. Over prescription being targeted as the cause leads chronic pain patients out of medication the need and leaves addicts going to greater lengths or turning to illegal more dangerous substitutes. The article challenges traditional understanding of addiction with the true physiology of it. It also illuminates the way that social structures play a part in exacerbating the problem backed by research from a scientific experiment on rats.
