|In the article “ The burden of firearm violence in the United States: stricter laws result in safer states.” (Joseph 2018) I learned that there are many factors thta contribute to gun violence, such socioeconomic conditions, availability of firearms and cultural factors. I also learned that the United States ranks number 1 in the list of countries with most privately owned guns. This ranking indicates that more lives are lost in seven weeks due to gun-related violence than the total number of lives lost in seven years of the Iraq War, which is truly worrying.
I think this happens because several states in the United States do not have strict laws for people who want to obtain a gun. Which makes it much easier for people to get guns and use them badly. This causes more people to die, due to situations such as homicides, murders and shootings, and all this due to little interest in establishing more specific and much stricter laws.
As I continue to learn about gun violence, I want to know more about what would happen if the government decided to take away the right to the second amendment for all citizens? Or what would happen if they put in place better laws to prevent people from getting guns easily?
