I remember the playground as a kid. It was full of burning hot sand and rusty slides. There was such a simplicity to it, which is why I loved it. That playground was taken down and replaced by large plastic contraptions. It is now a very fancy playground, but there is much less room for imagination. I used to me able to have nothing but a stick and a sandbox and be able to entertain myself for hours. I don’t think any kid today could do the same.
I theorize that technology in entertainment has caused this. So much child entertainment is basically force feeding them fun. It doesn’t require any intellectual engagement. Kids don’t need to create. This is reflected in video games, cgi movies, and animated tv. This isn’t to say that all these things are bad, but it does seem like the advancements in technology have made the entertainment more complex in theory but less complex in interaction.
I absolutely hate Paw Patrol. It is a terrible television show. I hate the movie Trolls. I love the TV show back to the barnyard, and I love Shrek. The difference in these two shows in both in quality of animation, and quality in story. The shows with better animation seem to have worse stories, but the kids watching it don’t know this. Kids are missing out big time.
OK boomer.
