Vladimir Putin’s war crime

In the article “Crimes of War” By Patricia Smith, published on OCTOBER 31,2022 I learned how Russians are committing war crimes against Ukrainian citizens. One of the reasons why Russians are killing people is because they are trying to take over parts of Ukraine and are facing lots of resistance. Lots of troops lost their lives trying to reach the capital of Ukraine, and the Russians took out the frustration on the citizens by tying them up and executing them. The Russian army also launched missiles on hospitals and schools which is another war crime they committed on ordinary people.

My reaction to this is sad because Ukraine has a small army compared to Russia. Ukrainian citizens have to rely on their army to help them from the war crimes.  My thoughts on this are negative because the citizens in Ukraine are trying to get shelter from the war and the Russians are just blowing up schools and hospitals where people are. In my opinion I think that Ukrainians should try to live in a basement or a shelter underground, so they have a higher chance of surviving.

What would you do if there was an army hunting ordinary people?

UKRAINIAN RELIEF EFFORT

In the article, “Students Join Ukrainian Relief Effort ” (BTW) I learned that many people are well aware of what is occurring overseas with Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, and people, in this case very young people, are taking action in hopes of helping the fleeing Ukrainian refugees. A graduate student at the University of Harvard began collecting many of the basic necessities that would greatly help these Ukrainian refugees, for example, food and clothing. Another two students at the University of Harvard decided to take part in this by creating a website that would connect refugees with host families. These students also plan to create a resource page that has information about public transportation and where to find clothing, food, and other supplies.

These students, as well as many other people, who are doing what they can in helping with the Ukrainian relief effort, should be admired because they are helping others who are not themselves. I believe that in this country we are extremely self-centered and we care very little about what is occurring around us thinking that it will have no effect on us, but one way or another it will. Besides that, we must help one another because we are all the same, we are all people.

How can you use the internet and its resources to help with the Ukrainian relief effort?

How the war with Ukraine has made a change in the world

The war in Ukraine has killed thousands of people, reduced thriving communities to rubble; and prompted the worst refugee crisis since WorldWar II, with millions of Ukrainians fleeing into Poland, Hungary, and beyond. The violence shocked the world and the world responded with unity which hasn’t been seen in a long time. The U.S. worked closely with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand to impose tough economic sanctions againstRussia . The actions that were made were that the U.S. froze the assets of Russia’s central bank, kicked several major Russian banks out of the international system for electronic money transfers, and banned the importation of Russian oil. The unity is giving people hope about democracy. What did Putin do to make such a unity take place? On February 24, after months of making threats and amassing troops on Ukraine’s border, he ordered an invasion from the east, the north, and the south. Why did Putin feel the need to make threats? Putin said he attacked because the presence of NATO troops and weapons incountries along Russia’s border threaten Russia’s security.

Bidens Response to Ukraine wanting the U.S. help

In the article “Ukraine asks for more help and Biden responds”, I learned that President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is asking for help from all over the world as he is faced with dangerous missiles that Thousands of rockets were fired by Russia. He also asked for help from the United States, but the Bidens’ response was that they would not send troops but would continue to support them with food and military equipment. Biden also said he would continue to impose tough economic sanctions on Russia.

I think what is happening in Ukraine right now is very unfortunate. Many people are innocent and have lost their lives due to the ravages of war. Although Russia thought it would be easy to control, Ukraine showed resistance.

Did Biden make the right decisions in helping Ukraine?

Rallying Around Ukraine

The war against Ukraine and Russia has affected people all around the world and inflation has gone up because of that. However, although the war has affected the people around it has also brought people together. Many countries have come together to help Ukraine in their situation. Countries such as The United States has worked closely with the European Union, the United Kingdom, Japan, Canada, and New Zealand to impose harsh economic sanctions against Russia. The U.S has frozen Russias bank, kicked several major Russian banks out of the international system for electronic money transfers, and banned the importation of Russian oil. Even Sweden, Finland, and Switzerland have abandoned their mindset of neutrality and began to help Russia. Shell, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Coca-Cola have voluntarily announced that they’re no longer doing business in Russia. Master card and visa have also stopped doing business with Russia.

The Case for Ukrainian Neutrality

https://nowcomment.com/documents/310124

The title of this article was “a deal doesn’t have to be a death sentence.” It’s about making progress on talks regarding Ukrainian neutrality. The article makes this case for fortified neutrality, meaning Ukraine would stay neutral in conflicts but still be able to maintain a standing army in case of future aggression. It also talks about Ukraine getting security guarantees, in exchange for a promise not to join NATO. This plan is the best plan I’ve heard yet, and it comes from an expert at Foreign Affairs. “A deal doesn’t have to be a death sentence” means that Ukraine doesn’t have to compromise its territorial integrity in order to make a deal with Russia and end this senseless war.

Schwarzenegger, Vindman Team Up for Viral Video Against Russian Disinfo

https://nowcomment.com/documents/310128

This article talked about a video Arnold Schwarzenegger made, appealing to Russians not to believe their government’s misinformation on the war in Ukraine and telling them the truth. An interesting part of this is that he got help from Alexander Vindman on the accuracy of his video. Vindman served on the United States National Security Council and was a key witness in Trump’s first impeachment trial, over Trump withholding aid from Ukraine unless Zelenskyy opened an investigation into his political rival’s son, Hunter Biden. Schwarzenegger appealed to them by telling them the story of how his father was a Nazi and went off to war, hyped up on his government’s lies, and came back broken. He told them he didn’t want them to end up that same way, and wanted them to know about Russia’s actual losses and what this war was actually about. Remarkably, he got it through onto Russian social media, which usually censors any anti-Russian, anti-war rhetoric.

Bidens Response to Ukraine wanting the U.S. help

In the article, “Ukraine Asks for More Help and Biden Responds” I learned that Ukraine President Volodymyr Zelensky is asking for help from the whole world as they face dangerous missiles of which thousands have been fired at them by Russia already. He also asks for help from the U.S. but bidens response was that they would not send troops but continue to support them with food and military equipment. Biden also stated that he would also continue to apply harsh economic sanctions against Russia.

Do you agree with Biden’s decision in his effort to help Ukraine?

I think what is happening right now in Ukraine is very unfortunate. There have been many people that are innocent and have lost their lives because of the damages that the war has done. Although Russia thought they’d takeover easily Ukraine has been showing resistance.

The Response to COVID-19

In the article, “COVID-19 Response ”, by McGraw Hill, I learned that the White House had planned to roll out the new phase of a coronavirus response but they couldn’t because of the crisis in Ukraine. Biden had addressed that people should just stay and go back to wearing their masks if people are not vaccinated. Biden announced that they should stop using the disease as a dividing line and instead come together to be fully living life with one another again. Also, Republicans and Democrats, and members of Congress all stood and applauded Biden when the U.S. was standing with Ukraine against Russian President Vladimir Putin. Republicans also applauded when the President pledged to provide the funding for law enforcement.

I think that what is happening in Ukraine is a very urgent crisis because the U.S. is helping the Ukrainians against the Russians. With the Corona response, I think that Biden really stated what he wanted to state to America about masks and how people should get vaccinated. It really surprised me that Republicans actually agreed with Biden on the funding for more police enforcement.

What do you think about Biden’s address?

Biden will travel to Europe next week for an extraordinary NATO meeting.

This article talked about Biden’s trip to Europe next week, including meetings with NATO and the European Union. Biden is visiting to reaffirm his firm support of Ukraine. Zelensky will also request that Congress send additional aid in a virtual address on Wednesday morning. The European Union and NATO should also discuss viable peace options at their meeting.

A guide to what Russia and Ukraine want from talks- and where the red lines are

This article talked about the demands of both sides in Ukraine-Russia negotiations. Russia demands a guarantee that Ukraine will never join NATO, and also would like Ukraine to recognize the independence of the Donetsk and Luhansk Peoples’ Republics as well as Crimea. Ukraine would like an immediate cease-fire and retreat of troops, and says it would take a long-term pause on future NATO membership if they got security guarantees from the United States and other countries. The establishment of humanitarian evacuation corridors still remains a contentious issue, as Russia promised to respect them but their soldiers still continue to shell and shoot, killing refugees in this area. Zelensky believes that the negotiations recently have gone well, signaling that an end to the war may come soon.

The Return of Containment: How the West Can Prevail Against the Kremlin

This article was about developing a new strategy for containing Russia and cutting them off from the West. It talked about how we need to deploy more NATO troops to the East, to protect those vulnerable nations, and how we must convince China to distance itself from Russia. It also talked about how we must step up our military and humanitarian aid to Ukraine.

Russia Invades Ukraine

It has been going on for a while which Russia Invades Ukraine is something the people from Ukraine are having a tough time. This started when Putin heard about Ukraine joining NATO and saw it as a threat. So he send his troops to Ukraine and said that Ukraine are being run by Nazis. Since the invasion, Ukraine responds by having to fight back instead of the offer that the U.S give for safety. The world responds by their reaction and not helping Ukraine because they believe that it would cause war and they don’t want to do it.

Since it happens people believe that World War 3 is going to happen. What I think is that it won’t because if Ukraine were to be in NATO, then there would be a war. Even though the invasion of Ukraine is still going on, there is nothing that we can do instead of praying for them that it will get better. As of right now, we just have to have hope that it doesn’t get worse and that people from Ukraine will get through this even though it is not a good time for them.

Will the Ukraine invasion get any worse or will it be fully stopped?

Russia Invades Ukraine

In the article, “Russia Invades Ukraine” (BTW by the way) I learned that Russia has invaded Ukraine and is planning to do a lot of damage. Not only Russia but a separatist rebellion against Ukrainian forces began in the eastern region that killed 14,000 people. Russia siuexed, and took control of a piece of Ukraine called Crimea. As Putin saw that  Ukraine attempted to strengthen its bonds with the European Union (EU) and NATO thought this was a threat. Putin started sending his troops at the Ukraine Border but had no plans to launch an invasion. Putin thought Russia was not safe so he took part in this “threat” he claimed. Putin also accused Ukraine of being run by Nazis. On the other hand Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy has joined his troops on the front lines. The U.S tried to help him get out of there and he rejected. He mentioned, “The fight is here. I need ammunition. Not a ride.”

I think this situation has gotten out of hand. Ukraine families are trying to flee the war but have to leave their belongings to make space on the train (News on CNN). I saw people from Ukraine going live on tik tok and the people behind the phones are living in fear. Some were crying and don’t know what to do.

What do you think about President Putin’s decision on invading Ukraine?

Russia’s Invasion to Ukraine

In the article, ‘Russia Invades Ukraine” (btw) I learned that the conflict between Russia and Ukraine began in 2014 over Putin claiming that Ukraine had been taken over by extremists. This conflict has made Ukraine want to strengthen their bond with NATA which is threatening to Putin because he doesn’t want Ukraine to become powerful. So, on February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine from the north, east, and south. His reasoning for this is that Ukraine has been bullying Russia which there is no evidence for. Also, what I found very interesting is that Ukraine’s president, Volodymyr Zelensky has joined his troops and is on the front lines. This is very admirable because he did not leave his people at an awful time like this.

I think this invasion is very devastating and should be taken very seriously. It is not fair for innocent people to die from this violence and have to live in fear.

What is your opinion on this invasion?
