Pavement Issues In Oakland And Why They Haven´t Been Resolved
Inquisition has brought me writing this article And I have procured for reasons why Oakland roads aren’t repaired because the condition of the streets is unacceptable; pavement issues are a major problem in Oakland and is irrevocable, the holes make the streets more dangerous and cause people have to spend lots of money on buying new tires and this can’t be fixed anytime soon. Don’t you wonder why?
As scouring the internet an article came across called Pavement conditions in Oakland written by Amanda Bartlett she is an associate digital reporter at SFGate. Received her B.A. in Journalism and Mass Communication from the University of Iowa, with focus areas in cinema, arts entrepreneurship and women’s studies. She previously served as an online editor for GreenState, covering the intersections between cannabis and science, law and pop culture.
The highlight of this evidence is that Oakland´s pavement is an issue and Oakland residents are dreaded from how the streets aren’t being treated.
“Oakland residents eagerly eyed Harold Street on Monday morning as neon orange cones and “Road Closed” signs blocked cars from passing over the road’s notoriously choppy pavement. It’s the start of a long-overdue project to repair the city’s neglected streets.”(Bartlett).
Residents are mad but do they really know the reasons? People can’t just keep blaming and whining but do action. This “long-overdue project”(Barlett), is becoming a problem to residents and even people passing through or visiting someone in Oakland.
“Oakland would need to spend $28M per year just to maintain the existing pavement conditions. Unfortunately, the City’s budget for street renovation is just a fraction of that.”(City Of Oakland Public Works).
That’s a lot of money just for potholes and the Oakland budget is inadequately small compared to the renovation Oakland needs. Oakland residents are mad but don’t do anything to change this problem. You don’t see anyone volunteering to do this nor donating money but you do see complaints. It’s shocking to see the cost to repair this, as an Oakland resident people wouldn’t think of it this bad but it is and we as a community need to do something.
J.R Stone a news reporter also stated something that related to this topic and it was, ¨Go almost anywhere in Oakland and you’ll come across potholes and cars — a bad combination which can end up costing you lots of money.”(J.R Stone).
Others can agree Oakland’s streets aren’t treated and Oakland residents once said: “The streets of Oakland are horrible…having to get tires every couple months you know.”(Zulema).
Oakland streets are In need of repavement and it can’t achieve it with the little money Oakland gets and Oaklanders need to find a way how to accomplish this so there are fewer potholes and more safety in the streets. Oakland as a community needs to come to consensus disregarding the urgent repavement issue. Hopefully, this article has extended your knowledge of Oakland’s need for repavement.
