I laugh and I smile, for the joy I feel,

I want others to experience and savor it as much as I do.

When the spring air comes with the clouds,

That is were my happiness comes from.

When the bees buzz, the birds tweet, and the frogs croak.

When the starry night sky appears,

Only when one is awake late at night,

Seeing the stars that speckle the dark blue ocean sky.

The country air which is born in my lungs.

Fields which are so green in the warm months,

Which house the fun memories I have of my siblings and I.

To the way that the pine trees move in the wind,

The way the grey gravel feels under my feet,

And the small pond that ducks live in.

The smell of wild flowers and mowed grass.

Seasons changing, holidays occurring,

Everything impacts me.

Being apart of a big family,

Having older siblings who are my best friends.

My values, my morals, everything learnt from each of them.

I live for everything that is joyous.

Trusting that my life is planned already,

Knowing that the He, the One who created everything,

Is always there for me, providing joy.

The way I talk, the way I act comes from my family and Him.

The way I show my kindness and compassion,

The way I respond, the way I work.

I sing, laugh, smile, and dance,

Embracing each and every good moment,

Knowing that we only have one life and

That I should live it to the fullest.

Taking after my mother,

Saying that everyday, no matter what, is a good day.

To relax and let everything happen.

From my father who tells us to pray,

Watching him trust in the Lord no matter what,

Knowing that everything will he okay.

To the paint splatters on my clothes,

The ink stains on my fingers,

And the charcoal on the paper.

The colors which bring my creations to life,

Adding more to help bring my stories to life.

Expressing my happiness and ideas through drawings

That show my ability as an artist.

All of this I celebrate,

Remember as the days go on,

And I hold each happy memory in my heart,

Knowing that I am a child of God.

This was such a beautiful poem. I really like what your class/ school is doing with the songs about yourself. I enjoyed how you talked about your big family and how it has shaped who you are as a person. Great post!

Your poem was amazing! Your use of vivid imagery was well done. I had a clear picture of everything that you were talking about in my head. You also did a great job on telling me how much you love nature through your poem. It is obvious to me that someone couldn’t paint that vivid of an image unless they were very well acquainted with the outdoors.

I completely understood the meaning you had when reading this – it was very well done. It’s so relatable (I also love the spring and summertime), and the imagery is fantastic; I can truly experience the nature with you. Even though I am not personally religious, I still felt an incredible peace at the conclusion of your writing.

While reading this poem, I thought that I was reading Whitman himself. You wrote so eloquently and did a truly fantastic job of imitating the style of the original poem. I thought you might like to have a go at doing your own take on another one of his poems, so here is a link https://www.poets.org/poetsorg/poems/45619 to a number of fantastic poems.
Thanks so much for your poetry!

This was absolutely beautiful. I loved the pictures you painted about life in the country. I felt like I could actually see everything you were describing. You did an amazing job!

this was a very good and well written poem. I really enjoyed the part when you mentioned the paint on your clothes and the ink on your hands/skin. This was very beautiful and I could really hear your voice as I read this poem. Great job!
