In the article “Is It Fair To Pay Teens Less Than Adults?'(upfront, Keating,2022) It discusses two point of views. One side talks about how a lot of teens struggle with finding jobs due to a lack of experience but to have the experience they need to have a first-time job. It also mentions about if teens and adults would get paid the same amount it would be more convenient to hire an adult rather than a teen because they want someone with more experience.
The other side talks about how teens should get paid the same amount of money as an adult because they are still doing the same thing. It also states it would be very beneficial for teens to work at such a young age to save up for their financial needs in the future. Teens also have responsibilities they can help with at home.
My personal opinion on this is that teens should get paid the same amount as adults. Workers should get paid based on their work ethic. As a teen, I think I would feel a lot less than an Adult, and that isn’t what I should feel. I should go to work and put in hard work to earn my money. For example, in some cases, adults are standing around mandating while they put the teens to work and this is unfair treatment because the teens are the ones putting in the work and they are doing this for much lower pay. This would also benefit the economy because more citizens are working which brings more income. This is also a higher chance of success because teens will want to push for a better higher job.
What do you think teens should get paid?
Dear, Dayana
I am fascinated by your post, “Should teens get paid less?” because I have never thought of such an idea. I don’t see any reason why teens or people with fewer years of life will be the deciding factor in pay. I strongly believe that the only way someone gets paid more is through years on the job, credentials, or work ethic. Those should be the only exceptions.
One sentence that stands out to me is, “Workers should get paid based on their work ethic.” This is an interesting point. I wonder if this can apply to all jobs or just the small ones. Businesses like Walmart don’t pay for the job that you do but rather the hours you clock in. Meanwhile smaller jobs are more likely to watch you closely and make sure you are working hard.
Thanks for your writing, I’m looking forward to reviewing what you write next, because you have some interesting takes and good questions that incite rational thinking.
Dear, Dayana
I am surprised by your post “ Should teens get paid less?” because a lot of teens that work get paid less no matter what they’re doing. I also think that teens should get paid more like adults because maybe they could be doing the same thing.
One sentence you wrote that stood out to me was that “I should go to work and put in hard work to earn my money.” This stood out to me because every day some teenagers have a lot of responsibilities in their homes but yet they still go to work when they have a job. And many teens have to work hard everyday doing the same job as an adult. So yeah I think having a job and doing the same things as an adult would be good to get paid the same amount.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because your post was something really true and interesting.
Dear Dayana
I am surprised about your post “should Teens get paid less” because hearing that teens get paid less sounds wrong. I believe that teens should be getting paid the same amount as adults as well.
One sentence you wrote that stands out to me is “it would be very beneficial for teens to work at such a young age to save up for their financial needs in the future.” I think this is amazing because I work as a teen and getting some extra money really does help me. I think there should be more open jobs for teens as well so they can get paid.
Thanks for writing, I look forward to seeing what you write next because this post was very interesting to me. It is also kind of relatable to me because I work as a teen myself and agree that working at an early age is beneficial.
