Immigration has always been an interesting topic in the United States. There have been policies, laws, and regulations because of immigration. It is been debated on for many years and the United States. Many questions arise from the topic. The following sources make the argument in answering the question: Should immigrants in the United States be given citizenship?
Undocumented immigrants that have made their lives in the United States should be given a clear and easier pathway to citizenship. As AJC states, “It is unrealistic and inhumane to deport these individuals from their families and lives in the United States. These immigrants should be offered a path to legal status and eventually earned citizenship.” The United States should provide opportunities for immigrants to earn citizenship just as Barack Obama did in 2013. By opening up these opportunities, the better people the United States would be gaining in their country.
Undocumented immigrants did enter the country illegally therefore making it unfair to those who are trying to enter the country legally. Ashley Nunes also makes a valid point that these immigrants did break a law in entering the country illegally. Her solution is one step short of citizenship, called legalization. In that way undocumented immigrants would be held accountable for breaking the law, but still allowing them to work and stay with their families in the United States.
