In the article “Stuff You Should Know Vaccines for Kids Under Five”(McGraw Hill), I learned that children under five years of age are still ineligible to receive the COVID-19 Vaccine. This affects many people, especially parents and caregivers. In many cases, fully vaccinated parents may not be completely comfortable with the idea of going back to work without the risk of exposure and possibly spreading the virus to their children. However, the FDA is most likely to approve the Pfizer vaccine as early as the end of February in children under five years of age but older than six months of age. This approval takes longer because they need to figure out things such as how much dosage should be given. Adults receive thirty-microgram doses of the vaccine, children ages five to eleven receive ten-microgram doses and kids six months to five years old will receive three-microgram doses. The FDA may soon approve three doses but for now, only one or two doses may be given. Many parents are not really eager for their children to receive the vaccination but it can be helpful.
In my opinion, I believe that vaccines should be available to children under five with the proper dosage. Since their bodies are much smaller and much fragile they need to be careful about how much they are given. I am confident that if more and more people become vaccinated the number of COVID cases will decrease. Since November 2021, COVID cases have decreased by about 150,000 a day because of the vaccine.
