I am Sherlyn and I am from Guerrero in Mexico. I speak two language:my first language is Mixtec and my second language is Spanish. My family is from Cuba Libre Guerrero, a small town where people speak ancient Mayan languages, from which I inherited the Mixtec language. I was born in Cuba Libre Guerrero but now I live in Brooklyn, part of Park Slope. A difficult situation in my life was being caught by immigration and then being taken to a shelter, a place where I didn’t know anyone and couldn’t communicate with my family.

This year  I am 14 years old. One of my greatest strengths is never giving up and giving all my effort to something. I am empathetic and have my values. My work in progress is learning English on my own. One of my greatest achievements this year was graduating from middle school with honors without knowing much English, but these achievements were the fruits of my effort. My goal is to master English and have good grades. One last thing: never give up, for soon your efforts will bear fruit.

My family is made up of six members: my mother  is of Mexican descent and she is 31 years old, she is very strong. My little brother, is also of Mexican descent, but was born here in the United States; he is 10 months old and he is very kind and tender too.At the same time, my mother’s partner, a respectable and responsible man, is of Mexican descent and he is very kind. My sisters, Iris and Alison, are the daughters of my mother’s partner. They were born here in the United States, and they are very friendly and funny.

Dear Sherlyn :
I am encouraged by your article, “Sherlyn’s Introduction” because it is amazing how you want to achieve so much when barely understanding the language. I think it is really important to talk about those who came from other countries and states for education a better chance.
One sentence you wrote that stands out to me is: “My goal is to master English and have good grades. One last thing: never give up, for soon your efforts will bear fruit. ” I think this is impressive because it is amazing how you would like to accomplish this and it sounds like you’re not stopping until you reach it.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because I would like to see how your family has grown, education wise and physically. Also looking forward to if you feel as if you seceded what you wanted to. Your writing can also encourage others to look forward when they’re at a new school, never give up.
Jenive
