The first chapters of March vol 3 by John Lewis might leave a reader feeling Hurt because Black people’s vote didn’t matter. Many of their votes were torn into pieces, many Black people had to take a literacy test . The test was mainly for Black applicants, White people didn’t have to take this test. An example of this is on page <_32__>. “ This included literacy test often only given to black applicants. They were filled with questions meant to trip up even the smartest person, but not everybody had to take them”. Readers are hurt because the novel reveals a sad truth. That there is a system, a system made to benefit White people and to Crush Black people.
The story begins with the 16th street baptist church bombing where 4 innocent girls died, the death of Johnny Robinson who was killed by a cop, and the death of Virgil Lamar who was killed by the KKK. The point of view the narrator is taking at this point in the story is that the People who killed innocent Black people were never indicted. The Alabama government let the criminals go, there were no repercussions to their behavior. So People like Bernard Lafayette and others were organizing to register black votes. So Black people in Alabama didn’t have to live with such a racist government.
After this part of the book, most readers probably will be looking forward to reading the rest of this book because we want to learn more and gain more knowledge. What’s probably going to happen next is Martin Luther king is going to form a March for Black people to vote.Tags: Harvest March
