This poem is about the connections between my life and Romeo and Juliet. i wrote about unnecessary violence and how it affects everyone.
Violence is a bigger problem than people would think
It affects those involved but also those not involved
Most can agree with this statement
Because we experienced it first hand
And those who haven’t experienced it
We envy you
We wish to not be apart of this violence
We took no part in
The violence that hurts people
The violence that kills people
The violence that people don’t even know about
All this violence
That is completely unnecessary
My house has been shot at
Twice
The sounds of glass shattering across the floor
The bullets cutting the air
Going through the walls
Leaving marks that are still there to this day
And the car screeching past, never seen again
And the feeling of safety
Gone
Not even sure why it was shot at
But because we just simply live in Oakland
That makes us apart of this violence
This violence brings great pain to everyone
“I am hurt”
Missing the feeling of safety in my own home
The fear of anyone you know dying at any moment
“Ask for me tomorrow, and you shall find me a grave man”
“The sounds of glass shattering across the floor
The bullets cutting the air
Going through the walls”
These words paint a very descriptive picture immersing me into the poem. It makes me feel like I am there experiencing this with you. Thank you for being so strong and sharing this personal story.
thanks for reading my poem and giving me feedback about my poem and what was good about it. thanks
I thought your poem was very deep and very good. Also I like how you connect R+J to the real world. I really like how you said a line of shakespeare and added it to your poem. Thanks for sharing your poem and sharing your experience.
