In the article, ” ‘Tragedy Upon Tragedy’: January Brings Dozens of Mass Shootings So Far”( Goodman, Marmon, Hassan 2023) I learned that in just one month there have been 39 shootings in which four or more people were hurt or killed. This has shown me how out of control gun violence is getting. These shootings are a call out for someone to step in and help create order as every year gun violence has been going up. The shootings are creating a snowball effect as they lead more people to purchase guns. It has also been desensitizing the country to such horrible acts. However, the problem is not the ownership of the weapons but how easy it is to access a firearm.
As I read the article it brought my attention to how many shootings there have been in just one month of the new year. I believe that there has to be a way to slow down these shootings. One good way I found where this can happen is by making the ability to get ahold of a firearm not as easy as it is today. There needs to be more requirements in order to purchase a gun. I firmly believe that the government has to at some point step in a try to stop the issue of gun violence. Every day there is someone dying due to gun violence.
