“ North Side Of Philly “

I live on the 16th hundred

Of lehigh where everything

Some night’s i hear

Gun shot’s , they be loud

The sound’s be like

People always say

I wanna live in north philly

But they don’t know what happen

Around the 16th hundred

People can taste the pain

When a young child get shot

In the streets , north philly not

A good place where people should

Wanna move too it’s just

Not a good place to be

I lost a friend in north philly

It’s just not the same nomore

Because the fact she not here

I’ve been asked question’s like

Why you don’t smile ?

I answer , it’s no reason to

Her smile is bright like the sun

Not seeing it is a hurt piece

She was too young she was only 14

Her heart was cold

North philly just not a safe place

Pray for philly

Quenshawn, your poem told a great story. It was powerful and although I cannot relate to your possible first person narrative, I feel as though your words connect with readers. It created a vivid image in my head and that is something that is a commendable ability to have when it comes to writing poetry. Keep writing! You’ve got something great here. Here is an interesting article to check out: http://www.phillymag.com/city/2017/01/30/new-york-times-philadelphia-northside/
