As the new school year is starting schools in California both private and public are mandating mask wearing. By October 15, 2021, staff members are going to be required to be fully vaccinated or they can get testes weekly (for grades K-12). The two largest teachers’ unions and Dr. Anthoy Fauci both support the new requirement. The requirement would affect many public teachers, private school employees and support staff but it is known that about 90% of the nation’s teachers have already been vaccinated (Source: California School Vaccination Requirements- McGrow Hill).
For the saftey of both teachers and students it is important for teachers to be vaccinated especially for those who are teaching twelve year olds and younger. For those who are teaching twelve year olds and older, they should also be vaccinated and if possible have the students be vaccinated or have a majority of them vaccinated since it would be benefical for both. It would be difficult to have everyone vaccinated since not everyone believes in the vaccine and you can’t force them to get it.
