In the article, “ Stuff You Should Know White House Promotes New Covid-19 Drug”(Mcgraw Hill) I learned that the white house has recommended vaccinations, masks, social distancing, and good hygiene to control the spread of the coronavirus. There may also be a new drug, an antiviral drug from Pfizer called Paxlovid. It was first authorized in December of 2021. The drug has been shown to reduce the risk of covid-19 hospitalizations by 90 percent. It has been approved for people over twelve years old who test positive and are at high risk for severe complications. The Biden administration has purchased 20 million doses of the drug and are working with Pfizer to produce more. Their plan is to double the number available. Paxlovid is given as three pills which a person takes twice a day for five days.
I believe that this can be good for us and can help end the coronavirus. I had no clue until I read this article that there was a drug related to Pfizer that could help us. I found it interesting how 90 percent of hospitalizations can be prevented. So many lives can be saved.
