Time is portrayed as being forcibly in charge in Andrew Marvell’s “To His Coy Mistress” because it is time that leads us transient beings to act on our youth-like and jubilant search for love while we have the chance, a chance that may not happen again because of the unyielding barriers of time.
I chose this gif because the man in the image not only points to his watch to highlight that he is short on time, but that he also draws a narrow box with his two hands to also highlight that the window of time that he does have is already short. Similarly, in Andrew Marvell’s poem, we are reminded that our time as human beings is rather short. We ought to use this knowledge to act on our emotions while we have the chance to do so.
