Thank you for sharing your work. I think eveyone should read this poem, on good days and bad days. It reminds you that you are special and loved. This poem will impact everyone who reads it.
I enjoyed reading your post. I havnt heard much a about this topic, but I have heard some. I think your topic is really important. Have you found some specific examples to use? I can tell this topic is really important to you and I can’t wait to see your final piece!
My research topic is mental illness in children. Illness such as depression, anxiety, ADHD, ADD, bipolar disorder, dementia. When I first started my research I was looking for essays about why parents try to hide
I think mental illness is a very interesting topic to talk about, because it is something that is important and I feel many should some what know about. I like how you said that your views are as well being changed and you have a different perspective. Something that would be interesting is if you interview someone with a mental illness and see what they think or interview a parent whose child deals with a mental illness. Overall, great job!
I really like your post on mental illness. I believe mental illness is a major problem in the society today, therefore it is a great research topic to write about. I really like how you talked about different websites that could help people and families who are experiencing mental illness. One interesting point that you brought up was music therapy and how some of the kids that you were helping in the Miracle League of Mid Michigan were using this type of therapy. I think it would it be cool if you interviewed some of the parents of the kids that are using this type therapy in the Miracle League of Mid Michigan and get their perspective if it is effective or not.
Why people don’t treat their children for mental illness? Why don’t parents seek mental health help for their children. It is interesting because it is not being addressed. We know that there are problems out
Thanks for bringing this up in your writing. Even in adults, there are more people who have some type of mental illness without being diagnosed. Mental health is becoming less of a taboo now than it was before, but there is definitely some (not so) blissful ignorance on the topic.
I found a website that has lots of information, from the American Psychological Association (http://www.apa.org/pi/families/children-mental-health.aspx). There are lots of factors that build into the mental health of a child, since they tend to be much more malleable, and the effects of childhood are definitely seen in adulthood. Hope this helps:)
Some people say that if you eat an apple before you go to bed your body will absorb all of the nutrients and you will not get sick. Apples can prevent some common diseases such as cancer, strokes, and heart
I really enjoyed reading your post. I couldnt agree more with you! I think minimum wage should remain the same. I skimmed your two links and I think those are good supprotive artitcles to your topic. If minimus wage is raised, some people may stop going to school and may not get a degree because they can make average money working at…[Read more]
I found your post to be extremely interesting. I do think some kids are spoiled and it can have a negative outcome. I don’t think that all “spoiled” kids rely on others for the rest of their lives. I think it depends on how the parents parent their children. Some parents make sure their children know that they have to work for thi…[Read more]
I really enjoyed your post. I have read The Great Gatsby many times. I have never connected that Nick Carraway may “swing for the other team.” Your evidence is substantial. I don’t think he is completely gay. He may be bi- curious. Throughout the novel he does date a woman, but that could mean nothing. I’m not one hundred percent sure…[Read more]
My all time favorite word is family. The definition of family is a group consisting of parents and children living together in a household. I believe there is more to family than just your parents and siblings.
I am interested with your title , “ My Favorite word,” because I saw it and wanted to see what this was about. I thought it might be about a sus word or something so i clited it
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “My all time favorite word is family.” I think this is crazy because i thought it was about sus words and your favorite word was family. I think it’s cool you choice family.
Another sentence that I made me think was: “My family is extremely important to me..” This stood out for me because I thought of my family and how much they meant to me
I do agree with you that family is extremely important One reason I say this is if i didn’t have a family i dont know what i would do.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because my family means a lot to me and i want to see what yours means to you.
I am touched with your post “My Favorite Word,” because I started reading it and your favorite word is family and to me family is the main reason we are all still here and surviving. One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “I don’t know where i would be without my family…” This stood out to me because without them we won’t make it far by having no support or people to go to during trials and temptations. Another sentence that made me think was “They are my number one support for everything I do in my life.” This stood out for me because family really is the only supporters you have because when times get rough and everyone turns their back all you got left is your family. I do agree with you that family is more than just parents and siblings because people have friends close enough to trust them with their life. Meaning family isn’t all about your blood it’s about who’s really there for you when you need them. Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because everything you wrote about family are true facts so I want to see how much more you can put into.
This is a youth-powered publishing platform that was started in 2003 by a group of teachers from local sites of the National Writing Project.
We merged several earlier blogging projects. We have found that there are many advantages to bringing students together in one site that lives beyond any particular class. It’s easier for individual students to read and write about their own passions, to connect with other students, comment on each other’s work, and create multimedia posts for each other. Further, it’s been exciting for us to pool our knowledge about curriculum, connected learning, and digital literacies.
There are over 8,000 posts and over 13,000 comments by young people on the site on topics as diverse as the American Dream, Shakespeare, and sports as well as original poems and stories.
Youth Voices is a platform for youth to write about their interests, both in school and outside of school: what they are reading, what their hobbies or future careers might be, what they enjoy in their spare time. Like all of us, students follow our national leadership and form opinions. They are also welcome to write about those topics as well.
Youth Voices is fully non-partisan and welcomes youth of all types, from all regions, and with all viewpoints. Educators support youth in writing and thoughtfully responding to each other through the use of commenting guides, using tags to show common interests, playlists to support self-guided inquiry; opinions expressed by writers are their own.
If being part of such a community makes sense to you, we invite you to join us. We welcome all youth and any teacher interested in having students publish online and participate in the give and take of a social network like Youth Voices.
