  • Hi Noor, I agree a little with you about GM is good, because some foods contain more nutrients, vitamins, etc. But I know some GM foods can be bad because some of them contain hormones, the animals we eat are also feed with that. When farmers use pesticides to kill undesirable plants, it harms the earth and if the food is not well washed, there…[Read more]

One thing I’m most proud of accomplish this week is that I’ve been looking for the meaning of some words in the dictionary and keeping writing, thus y english is not deteriorated. Therefore, the next week I would like to keep motivated and learn new words, expressions or improve my writing.

  • To begin I have to define what is xenotransplantation. Xenotransplantation is the transplantation of the organ, cells or tissues of an animal to a humans.
I choose this application to study because many people

    • Dear Naiara,

Wow, thank you for posting about xenotransplantion! I was unfamiliar with the term so your post definitely taught me something new. I look forward to learning more from you about genetic engineering.

So far, what surprises you most from your research?

  • I know that Genetic Engineering can be helpful and harmful at the same time. When scientists use it to make plants resistant to herbicides or chemicals to kill unwanted plant or insects that eat the vegetation.

    • Hi Naiara,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts. I like the fact that you can see the good and the bad of genetic engineering.
I am all for progress but I think every time we mess with the natural order of things, it hurts us.

      Thanks again,

Which playlist are you working on and why?
Im working on “Genetic Engineer”. I choose this playlist because I’ve seen videos about genetic engineer and its impact on society, and I found it kind of interesting because many years ago it wasn’t common, but now, it’s everywhere. So due to this previous information and with the interest, I chose…[Read more]

      Dear Naiara,

Thank you for sharing your beautifully written story. I learned so much about you and the things you value because of the honest and clear way you communicated your ideas.

One of the things that struck me about your story was this quote. “Even though I just have no more than a year and one month here my Spanish has been affected. I noticed I pronounce some words with that funny “latina-gringa” accent and when I talk, I forget some words.” It reminds me of when I lived in Cameroon, a francophone country in West Africa and was completely immersed in French. I would go for weeks without speaking English and at times, when I did speak English, it felt like I was a little rusty. I would love to hear more about this. What do you do to help preserve your Spanish.

I look forward to reading more of your writing on Youth Voices.

    • Dear Naiara
I am moved by your post , “My Immigration Story and Injustice Back in Peru”, because you were very honest about your thoughts and feelings and what you went through before and after you had your big move. I enjoyed reading about how you struggle to memorizing things because I also am the same and I also take notes so I can remember things. Taking walks is one of the few things people rarely do anymore. Especially in New York because it’s so dangerous here, but the fact that you do go anyway is pretty cool.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “ Usually, I pick a place, then I go to that place and then I just walk around so I won’t get lost. But in case I do, then I will use maps. Walking gives me a lot of time to think, and I believe that’s one thing I’m particularly good at.” I think this is very awesome because going on walks is very relaxing and the fact that you have time to do so is just cool to me.
Another sentence that I enjoyed was: “The reason why I immigrated is because of opportunities. .” This stood out for me because i think it’s very courageous how you and your family did all of this for a better future. Very nice post 🙂

The thing I liked most about the last two days is…
Write again, since school ended I haven’t write a paragraph, and its a good thing because I’m gonna keep practicing my english and improving it.

I think writing empowers our learning by the effort we make when writing. Personally when I write I’m thinking about my spelling and how I can put my ideas into words. I still learning english, and I feel I have so much left to learn. Looking at definitions and new information, translating and thinking how I can communicate correctly what I’m try…[Read more]
