• Dear Secretary Devos,

Americans have accepted the fact that a solid education is what will determine the future of our country, and of ourselves.  However, we need to look at the fact that not everyone is

  • Education is everything to Americans.  We want to live a comfortable life, have a stable job, and we grow up learning that we have to go to college to achieve this.  Children and teens learn that college is a n

    • Maddie, I agree with your stance on education to promote the advancing of society. I agree that the government needs to allocate more money to the states for inner city education funding. I live in a state with a fairly underfunded educational system, and I find this topic very interesting. I believe a huge education reform needs to occur in the next decade for our future generations. I have researched into foreign education and found that countries like Finland and Sweden have very advanced education systems that have much more sensibility ingrained in them. I enjoyed reading your article and would like to see where your research takes you. • In today’s society it seems that getting an education is necessary and inevitable.  The law tells minors that we must attend school which makes getting an education unavoidable.  Society tells us that going to s

  • Hi Tuan!
I agree with the idea that Twain utilizes dialogue to add an extra element to the story, and to really get the reader to understand the setting of the novel. However, I disagree with your statement in saying that Jim’s speech is “improper”. Although his speech does display a lack of education and a different upbringing when compared to…[Read more]

Hey Abdullah! I loved listening to your essay because your compassion was so evident. I agree with you that the ultimate outcome of our lives is not fully determined by what we do. My dad went to law school and loved studying law but when he graduated jobs were scarce and times were hard for a while. Even though he worked so hard and went…[Read more]

“Yes, he’s got a father, but you can’t never find him these days. He used to lay drunk with the hogs in the tanyard, but he hain’t been seen in these parts for a year or more.”

    • There are many moments where there are clear signs of foreshadowing in the book, and I think you chose a good one because it sets the stage for the rest of the story regarding Huck’s father and his behavior. I definitely agree with how you pointed out that the presence of parents affect the child and how they act.

  • I believe in the capabilities of one’s own mind.  The amount of power you can find within yourself is exponential compared to what we find in others.  Whether it be ways to help yourself or ways to help other peo

    • Maddie,
I really loved your piece because I think having enough confidence to stand up for yourself is something a lot of people struggle with. There are times when listening to others can help, but it’s also really important to listen to your gut! Thank you so much for sharing your piece!

  • Mayree,
I have always contemplated going vegan, but it would be so hard for me as I am accustomed to eating all of the animal products in my diet. I would love to reap the benefits of eating a vegan diet but the transition would have to be steady for me, and would take some time. I didn’t know western diets were linked with cancer and that being…[Read more]

Thank you for taking the time to post this on youth voices because if you hadn’t I wouldn’t have learned this exciting information for women. Keep up the awesome work, and keep researching deeper into this topic because I feel like you could go…[Read more]

  • Ricardo,
Are you saying that you think this would be a good thing to do? Or is it something that is happening somewhere? I don’t think a day without immigrants is a good direction to go in to show Trump the importance of all races in our nation. Also, President Trump does not hold things against people of all races, I believe he specifically…[Read more]

  • This is a great writing that gets deep into the facts behind child labor. I was wondering what your opinion on the matter is? How do you think our nation can help fix this problem? I think that stopping the support of products that use these means to produce is the main way people can team up together to get these companies to stop their means…[Read more]

What about the possible consequences of raising minimum wage? Increasing the minimum wage could also cause things to become more expensive because companies will need to fill the void of the money they lose when paying higher wages. Companies that are smaller and don’t have the funds to pay employees at higher rates could go out of business…[Read more]

  • I agree with you that college costs are high and shouldn’t be as high as they are, but there are many options for financial aid to help people who can’t attain the education otherwise. There is nothing wrong with going to a community college versus going to a regular public college or private university, and community colleges are much less…[Read more]

  • Oh, I meant that 25% of the world’s inmates can be found in America not that 25% of the world’s population is incarcerated.

  • The population of the United States makes up only 5% of the world’s total population yet we house 25% of the world’s inmates.  If petty crimes that don’t put others lives at risk didn’t yield such high

    • The mass incarcerations have been an issue. The fact that 25% of the world’s population is incarcerated does not seem right to me. The fact that this person talks about how petty crimes should have a not as severe punishment is something i agree with. Just like the fact that these little things make drastic changes in someone’s life is not good to me. Especially if those things are false.
