To begin, the novel Uglies written by Scott Westerfeld connects to our current society because our society is currently being separated into two different groups. For example, Donald Trump is trying to remove all

Hello Bea!
I apologize for this late response but I read your comment and I have to tell you that I definitely agree with you when you said how when parents tell their kids to stay away from drugs/ alcohol. I agree with you because they should be a good role model for their children! That sentence stood out to me because we both agreed to that…Read More -

Dear Hector,
I am shocked about all of the facts that yous stated because your hook grabbed my attention. One sentence that you wrote out that stood out to me was you stated how 4% of women use drugs and the negative effect of them using the drug is their baby coming out with health issues. Another sentence that stood out to me was when you…Read More

Did you know that 47,055 drug overdose deaths occurred in the United States in 2014?! Also, did you know that 8.3 million children under 18 years of age lived with at least one substance dependent or

Hi Kayla!
One sentence you wrote that really stood out to me was “This is shocking because parents are supposed to be the ones to protect their kids, but instead, the parents are influencing their family negatively.” I definitely agree to what you stated because it is said that parents should “practice what you preach” and be the positive role models to their children. However, when parents are telling their children to “stay away from drugs and alcohol” while doing drugs and/or alcohol, the message being sent to children kind of defeats the purpose of “practicing what you preach”. It essentially gives a child the mindset of “if my mom/dad is doing that, then it must be ok”.
You did a great job on covering the possible effects on the varying types of drugs!Best,

Hello Bea!
I apologize for this late response but I read your comment and I have to tell you that I definitely agree with you when you said how when parents tell their kids to stay away from drugs/ alcohol. I agree with you because they should be a good role model for their children! That sentence stood out to me because we both agreed to that idea. I think we both agree on my post about how drugs and alcohol can affect people and also kids at a young age.
Thank you for taking your time for writing to me! It’s good to know that someone agrees with me. I hope that you enjoyed reading my blog! I hope to hear from you again.Best,
Kayla

Kayla,
I really appreciated your post and it really spoke to me and my feelings right now about our current political state. I really liked how you draw such a strong connection between your book which is fiction, and our reality that is non fiction. The most powerful part of your writing was the counterclaims: “Some may think that Donald Trump is doing what is best for America, but he does not know that there are families here that are going to be broken apart because of the immigration and separation that he is enforcing. Some may also think that what Dr. Cable and the Specials are doing is right but in reality, they are basically telling people under the age of 16 that they are ugly.” It is really nice that you acknowledged the other perspective in your writing since many people did vote for President Trump and agree with his point. My acknowledging this point you are strengthening your own argument more.
I look forward to reading more of your thoughts!
