    Dear Edwin,
I am interested in your introduction because you have said that you are from Honduras, but you have been to Mexico and now you’re in the USA. I am glad to know that because I am from Mexico.
One thing I learned from your writing that stood out for me is: “Any kind of thing can happen during the day or night, such as shootings, stabs, a…Read More

    Five Brothers and One Sister

Hi my name is Estrella, and it’s important to know that I am a shy person. I am half Mexican and half American. My parents are from Mexico, but I was born in the USA. I live in Sunset...

    • Dear Estrella,
I am light-hearted with your post, “Five Brothers and One Sister”, because it explains how your role in the family is important once you look into it. Although to you it might make you feel or seem small, but being the oldest out of the girls is actually really important considering how you should be there for your younger sister.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “One of my greatest struggles is being the only girl in my family. Except for my little sister…” I think this is important because it tells us your role in the family. It also tells me that being the oldest girl can be challenging while still being a good thing.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because based off this post it seems as though you have a lot to say. Continue to be upstanding.

    • I am curious how your family dynamic, 5 brothers and one sister, has shaped you. Do you think this has made you more resilient or independent? Would you ever want another sister or do you like it just the way it is?

    • Hi Estrella,

I enjoyed reading your post and learning about your family and personality. I was able to get some insight into what it’s like to have more than one sibling, and it sounds like it can be chaotic. I can relate to having a sometimes irritating older brother. However, we get along most of the time, and I don’t think I would like being an only child. What about you? Would you prefer to be an only child?

I look forward to reading more of your work!

    • Hi Estrella, I was wondering if having older brothers has shaped you in any way. Did they ever make you stronger? Do you feel you would be different without them? Great writing!

    • Hi, This was good read and I was able to connect to what you were saying, and it brought joy to me. Because all of our lives are crazy and I have a brother who used to always bother me and it’s cool how we can live in such different parts of the world and still relate to each other. It was good to learn about your family, and the household you grew up in. But wondering if you are glad that your brother influenced you in this way, because personally mine did.

    • Dear Estrella
I am excited about your introduction because when you said that you are a shy person it connects about me too. Because I’m a shy person too when I meet new people. And the other part that I noticed was that you enjoy math and I love math too is my favorite subject.
One thing I learned from your writing that stood out for me is: “One of my greatest struggles in life is being a girl.” I think this is interesting because I’m the youngest out of my brothers and that makes me feel weak. Your writing connects to my own experience. For me, Is when you say that you have 5 brothers and 1 sister and I’m saying that because I have 5 brothers and 1 sister as well.
Thanks for your work on Youth Voices. I look forward to seeing what you write next because I really love your work and I want to see more from you.

    • I have the opposite problem to you. I have six sisters! I like your reading of this piece. Your voice is wonderful. Keep up the good work!
