    • Hi Allison,

I definitely agree that competition allows us to grow as people. I myself have been in very competitive environments and situations, and it has made me better at that task and want more for myself. Also, I feel like it doesn’t matter where you go, competition will always exist. However, I feel like competition can lead to unnecessary fighting and altercations. Competition can also cause people to care more about winning and less on self growth, and that is very popular nowadays. Overall, I think your stance on competition was great. I liked how you stated the opposition also. You made me think of the idea of competition in a whole new way!

    • Dear Eli:

I am surprised by your post, “Competition”, because I like the way you talk about competition. I had never thought about what the competition was really about.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “ without competition, we would have no lengths to strive for. For many, people who are financially successful serve as motivation for those whose goal is to achieve wealth and they use that example to compete to get ahead.” because you are right that without competition the life would be easier and nobody would fight for their goals. I also think that competition is something that we need in life to learn to fight, win, or lose.

Thanks for you writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because I would like what is your opinion about on others topic such as friendship?

  • Colin, I really enjoyed reading your piece. The facts you brought to light about drunk driving fatalities before and after the age limit were very intriguing. Also bringing up an essence of a forbidden fruit for the reasoning behind why teens want to try alcohol is a very good point. I completely agree with that point and I believe that teenagers…Read More

Keaton, I enjoy your article very much to spread the awareness of using codeine by rappers. However, I believe that a lot of it is just the rappers are talking about it more than just acting on it, and yes, this is a terrible example to their fans. I’m not saying that the rappers are just talking about it and not using drank, but I am saying I…Read More

    • Eli,
Your essay is quite powerful; especially with the anecdote about your grandfather. It is a sort of challenge, a me vs. myself, and I thank you for clearing up the perversions of the American Dream from a purely consuming force to one of capability and potential. We must persevere, because if we cannot persevere, what can we accomplish?

    • Eli,
I think it is great what your great great grandfather did in order to make a life for himself here in America. That was a great way to open up the topic of Americans persevering because it is such an important part of our culture and history, and it is always good to remember how hard people worked to get here. Though now a days people aren’t always traversing continents to get here, Americans are still fighting for their beliefs and their are those who are immigrating to America for better lives. I found a website that shares the stories of these strong people who are working to come to America, just like your great great grandfather did so long ago, https://myimmigrationstory.com. Thank you for sharing your story and I hope to read more from you in the future.

Gabe, I appreciate how you mention the troops and the importance they have on our country. To be disrespected by the people that they gave their lives for is terrible. I do agree that our country, although the many differences and arguments that we have, in times of disaster will put everything down and begin to help one another. I thought your…Read More
