After I did some more research on ways that the Great Barrier Reef can be saved I came up with many easy, possible results, even if you live nowhere near the reef. People in Australia took survey and found
I really like the info about meditations if you can tell 🙂 This is so interesting to learn about. Yesterday, I did a one hour yoga session and just from that I could feel a substantial difference in my mental well being.
Hey Chole! I really liked your post and agreed with what you said. It was interesting to hear about the pros and cons of social media. I also think that with so much media we have begun to take for granted the natural world and that going out into nature is a great time to refocus our attention on that and to unplug.
There is alarming evidence showing that habitats are dying due to global warming, temperature changes, and man made problems. The Great Barrier Reef is one habitat that is it great danger. Carbon dioxide e
I loved learning more about stem cells because people are highly torn about stem cells but I have never had enough information to form an opinion. This makes me want to look more into stem cell research because I can see how important stem cells could be and how helpful they can be for people. This article really sparked my interest.
This was so interesting. After taking yoga, I also agree that meditation can have many positive impacts and that if we implement this daily we could all live happier, better lives. I also think that meditation allows you to focus on the things that are important in life over the wants of life. Learning about how meditation affects the brain was so…[Read more]
A habitat is where animals and organisms get what they need to survive and thrive. Essentially, it is their home. Today, every habitat has been invaded by humans. These habitats are becoming endangered due to
Wow I absolutely loved this! I did not know much about this topic and this article really educated me! I agree that bed nets seem absolutely important! Such simple and effective solutions are necessary to integrate, especially in third world countries where people already live hard lives. I think another huge problem we need to fix in third…[Read more]
Dear Katie, It is great to hear about a topic like this, especially from someone who has had a personal experience with this. It was also great that you included your research. I think it is so amazing that people who have limbs amputated and then a surgery seem to do so well with their new lifestyle so I think that in this domain the medical…[Read more]
This article was so interesting! I loved all of the research you did and how passionate you were about it! It is also so good that you cited your sources and so interesting that you changed your opinion based on the research you found. It does seem like there are a lot of negative side effects to these medications. What do you think some…[Read more]
I agree that we have many standards set in front of us as what beauty should be. I also thought it was interesting that this varies in different cultures. I think that in the US the standard that we have for beauty is not good. What girls should look like portrayed in magazines, in ads, online, etc . is super skinny which I think is a bad thing…[Read more]
I also agree with everything that you have to say. As a student who has worn a uniform my entire life I am able to understand not being able to express myself completely. I think that especially for teenagers and children in middle school being able to express yourself is a huge part in growth and discovery. When I complain to some of my…[Read more]
I agree completely. It is hard to just block off our country from those in need of safety, a home, and a better life. I think that Germany has been a great role model for letting Syrians into its country no matter what because they have learned so much from World War 2 and take that matter very seriously because they experienced it first hand.…[Read more]
I think that feminism is a great cause to fight for. Only some feminists are that extreme and if so good for them. Everyone deserves to express themselves how they want to because that is a basic human right and asking someone to change that is not okay. Further more, men had the right to vote before women so hats off to the women that fought…[Read more]
I completely agree that we do not need a wall around the US. Not only is it expensive and overall pretty pointless but it would make our foreign affairs extremely hard. I read an article about the wall on yahoo and it said that basically everyone else would hate us which would be a serious problem for us and hurt our economy extensively.
I loved your breakdown of the word finesse. Finesse is a great onomatopoeia, it does sound like its meaning. I also think that if people handle situations in life with finesse we are bound to be happier and stress free. I agree that if we handle situations with finesse that that will automatically give us an advantage. I also loved your use of…[Read more]
Most of the issues of gun control stream from the words of the second amendment. The second amendment states that “A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the p
I loved your article about saving the planet and reducing global warming. I live in Utah in Salt Lake City which is deep in a valley and during the winter the pollution gets very bad and we have lots of red burn
I agree with your ideas. My grandfather has done many happiness studies and the happiest people in life are not always at the richest, most popular, etc. The happiest people are the people that pursue the things
This is a youth-powered publishing platform that was started in 2003 by a group of teachers from local sites of the National Writing Project.
We merged several earlier blogging projects. We have found that there are many advantages to bringing students together in one site that lives beyond any particular class. It’s easier for individual students to read and write about their own passions, to connect with other students, comment on each other’s work, and create multimedia posts for each other. Further, it’s been exciting for us to pool our knowledge about curriculum, connected learning, and digital literacies.
There are over 8,000 posts and over 13,000 comments by young people on the site on topics as diverse as the American Dream, Shakespeare, and sports as well as original poems and stories.
Youth Voices is a platform for youth to write about their interests, both in school and outside of school: what they are reading, what their hobbies or future careers might be, what they enjoy in their spare time. Like all of us, students follow our national leadership and form opinions. They are also welcome to write about those topics as well.
Youth Voices is fully non-partisan and welcomes youth of all types, from all regions, and with all viewpoints. Educators support youth in writing and thoughtfully responding to each other through the use of commenting guides, using tags to show common interests, playlists to support self-guided inquiry; opinions expressed by writers are their own.
If being part of such a community makes sense to you, we invite you to join us. We welcome all youth and any teacher interested in having students publish online and participate in the give and take of a social network like Youth Voices.
