• Dear Oakland Principals,

I am writing to you because students play a variety of sports at school without gear and can possibly end up with a concussion. Are you okay with your students getting a concussion? It

Thank you so much for reading my blog. The part of your comment that stood out to me was where you stated that this topic should be on the news. A question I have for you is would you ever start researching about kidnapping and why? Look forward to hearing back!

        • Dear Manny, I think your post was really great because you explain a lot how there are no skate parks in Oakland. A line that stood out to me was “The city has nice places so people go there but also ban skateboarding so people don’t do it which is dumb because its a public area and people take items like backpacks purses and bicycles there so w…[Read more]

        • Dear Roberto,

I feel like you’re wrong about your post. One sentence that stood out to me was “Churches can help people feel less depressed and feel more empathy.” This stood out to me because it is true that it helps with depressed people and give them reasons why it’s okay to be that way sometimes. However, one thing I disagree with was that…[Read more]

        • Everyone knows about kidnapping but not everyone knows that not only females are kidnapped a lot of males get kidnapped too. In the past couple of years there has been more kidnappings in Oakland. An unacceptable

          • Dear Amilia, I liked you article a lot and I didnt know that many people got kidnapped. As a person who partailly watches the news in the afternoon I am not informed this many kidnaps, but What are the reasons of the kidnappings? Which age group is it? Which area is it most likely happening in? I think that this topic should be seen more on the news so people can be informed and prepare their children. Thank you for writing this topic.

              • I enjoyed your article, and was shocked by the number of people getting kidnapped. i was also shocked by the amount of males being kidnapped. Most people assume that females get kidnapped more.
I liked how you added articles that talk more about this topic. I also liked how you expanded on each quote you added into your article.

                • Thank you for reading my blog. A part of your comment that stood out to me was when you said you were shocked about the numbers. It really stood out to me because when I saw for the first time I was also shocked about the numbers people getting kidnapped. I agree with you when you said people assume that females get kidnapped more. A lot of people do assume that and my blog shows that not alone females get kidnapped but boys do as well and that is so interesting and surprising because the amount of boys getting kidnapped is really close to the amount of girls getting kidnapped. Thank you for commenting and reading my blog I hope to hear from you again.

                  • Amilia,

This is so scary! I am shocked that there are so many people being kidnapped. Since I am from Utah, I am not aware of the amount of people being kidnapped in Oakland, and how this number is going up for both boys and girls. Since most people assume that girls are always the ones being kidnapped, it is very important for people to know that almost as many boys are being kidnapped as well. Although I agree with most of the things discussed in this, I feel like there are more reasons as to why people kidnap. Yes, a lot of kidnappers do so for money, but I don’t think this is the only reason. I found this article (https://www.nytimes.com/2002/08/27/science/who-would-abduct-a-child-previous-cases-offer-clues.html) which dives into the reasons why kidnapping happens.

Thank you for bringing this to people’s attention!

                  • I agree with some of your statements but i think there were a lot of grammatically incorrect sentences. Also, your paragraph was really redundant, you often said your same point for most of your essay. Though I do think that a lot people how kidnap do, do it for the money but its not only that. There’s a lot of mentally ill people who kidnap people, or other reasons you could’ve elaborated on.

                    • Also you should’ve fact checked your statistics, you began talking about Oakland’s kidnapping but then brought up kidnappings generalizing the whole country.

This Shadow Box represents my Race, Gender identity, and my Creativity. When people look at me, they see a Black female. Yes, I am a Black female, but I am not only a Black female, I am also mixed with Puerto

                  • Hi Amilia! I am a current student at San Jose State University. I find that your project is very unique and creative. What I really enjoyed reading was your background of who you are. You explained very well of who you are, your race, gender, and identity. You also bolded the main points, which makes it easier for me to refer back to. You also added details into your Shadow Box such as yarns. It it very impressive how you shared with me your background story about how your cousin taught you how to make scarves out of yarn. Overall, I really enjoy reading your story and seeing your Shadow Box. Keep up the good work!!

                  • Dear Amilia,
I am excited about your shadow box “The Truth” because I enjoyed how you see yourself and not let what other people see you as, affect you. I also liked how you added an example like the yarn.

                  • Hi Amilia,
I am currently a student at SJSU. Your project is very inspiring and should be done for students all around the world. As you mentioned, it is a great way to see the deeper and more personal side of people. Also, it is a great way to learn new things about others. I really enjoyed you including the flag to show that you are mixed. It is one example of showcasing someone’s more personal traits. Overall, I love your project and you should continue to advertise it.

                    Sincerely,
                    Kaitlin

                  • Hi Amilia,

My name is Moi, and I am a student at San Jose State University. I really enjoy your shadow box. It genuinely reflects how intuitive you are and how well you know yourself. I am so glad that you want to break the stereotypes of today’s society; most people would prefer to settle to avoid conflict. I can tell that you are unapologetically yourself. Also, I find myself to be a very creative person as well! Creativity shows a lot about a person, and using yarn as a medium is something I have never ever thought of. Thank you for the inspiration (: Good luck to you.
