• Hello I am Matthew from the plasticintheocean blog. Over the course of our project, we tried to raise as much awareness as we could about the harm Plastic causes when it is carelessly released into the ocean.

  • Matthew wrote a new post, Plastic Ocean 1 month ago

This is an information video about the course plastic takes while circulating the earth in mass quantities. We have created this video in order to inform people about plastic bottles and effect on the planet. We

  • I liked yours Eduardo because it was descriptive enough to know what a meme is but at the same time it wasn’t like an essay or really long. it stood out to me when you said that memes make no sense often but that’s why they are so funny and random. this stood out to me because it made me stop and think for a moment what just how random and…[Read more]

  • As we all know, the internet is an easy way to get information or play games and such but sometimes you don’t realize that you could be a victim to identity theft or cyber bullying. These things can happen to

    • I enjoyed reading your post, Matthew; you had a lot of good suggestions in your article that show that you have done a lot of research. I especially like how you talk about using capitals, numbers, and symbols in passwords, which is a very easy thing to do that could save people a lot of trouble. Another thing I read that people can do (https://securingtomorrow.mcafee.com/consumer/consumer-threat-notices/10-tips-stay-safe-online/) is use a firewall for your computer, which protects you from other people hacking onto your device. I recommend you read the article by Securing Tomorrow, because it has a lot of good information about your topic. I look forward to reading your writing in the future.

    • Very interesting topics, Matthew. I enjoyed reading your article, especially when you give specific examples of ho to improve the online safety of others. The few I found helpful were when you mentioned clicking the “X” button on pop-up advertisements, or doing a “safe search on your internet provider.” The examples you gave above are necessary in order to keep people safe. Who is in the most danger regarding this problem? I have heard it is prevalent with more senior ages, but I would do more research about who the target audience is. In addition, if you would like to continue your research, here is an article you could read: http://articles.chicagotribune.com/keyword/internet-safety#. I believe you have the potential to educate others about this prevalent and serious issue of our cyber-world today. I look forward to reading more from you on this topic in the future.

    • Matthew,
I agree with how easy it is to get mixed but on the internet and how the consequences of careless clicking can affect you. Identity theft and cyber bullying are serious problems. Your advice on how to stay safe online was really helpful. I think it would be beneficial to include more ways to protect your privacy and this will surely help. http://techland.time.com/2013/07/24/11-simple-ways-to-protect-your-privacy/ I’m interested in hearing back from you!

    • Matthew your post was interesting and informative. I like how you talk about ways to prevent identity theft when you stated “safe search as well as get strong passwords that contain capitals, numbers, and even symbols.” I believe that everyone should not be sharing their passwords with others and make it complex enough so it is not easy to hack. I also found it useful to have multiple passwords just in case someone tries to hack into your account. I found an interesting article that may be helpful for you (https://internetsafety101.org/snsdangers). Thank you for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next because I like your topic on the dangers of the online world. Technology is used often in this world and it is important to know the dangers of it.

    • Matthew,
I do believe people she be careful of the Internet and what it can lead you to. However, most people going on the Internet in our day and age know what they are putting themselves into. When you are revealing personal information on line it is your choice whether or not to make your posts private or public. I believe it is a personal responsibility to be aware of what you’re posting and who can see it. Here is a helpful website you can use to protect yourself while using the Internet.

I’m very interested in your opinion on this topic.

    • Matthew, I really like this article and how it talked about the dangers of the internet. the internet is a good place it just can be corrupt sometimes. http://www.webmd.com/parenting/features/4-dangers-internet#1, this will help give some more insight into your issue with the internet. i also think you could talk about what its doing to our minds especially as teens and how much we use it on a daily basis. cant wait to read more from you.

    • Internet safety is a new wave precaution that many people know nothing about. That is why the topic you chose is so important. I like how you assessed the risks of carless clicking and brought up viruses.

If you want to expand your argument and talk about what a virus actually is and does, this article could be helpful. Good luck, and I’ll be looking for more on this in the future.

    • Matthew,
Internet safety is a serious issue and I think it is great that you are addressing it. You brought up a lot of great points in your post. Here is an article that I think will help you with your research in your topic https://www.brookings.edu/research/youth-internet-safety-risks-responses-and-research-recommendations/
      Good luck!

    • Dear Matthew,

Internet safety is an important issue that I think is not talked about enough in our homes, workplace and classrooms. Something that our generation today isn’t aware of, is how big of an impact social media has on our future life, including the schools we get into and the jobs that we get.

I think your research paper could be improved by adding some statistics about internet safety and the impact it could have on our lives. I have provided some links to websites with statistics and additional information on the issue.

I think you should also ask yourself, how will internet safety help keep people’s information and personal identity safe? I know that often times I create simple passwords just so that I don’t forget them, even though I know I am putting myself at risk.

    • Hi Matthew. Internet safety is one of many problems we face today. It can be so easy for someone to steal your identity, bully, and steal from you. Everyone needs to be safe when using the internet. Be careful where you give out your debit card number, personal information, etc. There are also people out there that want to go after people for whatever reason (online predators). This website is used by many schools for kids. This website has many basic solutions to protect kids from the internet. Hopes this helps!

    • Matthew, I too believe that internet safety is a very important issue. I was really touched when you mentioned how easy it is for someone to become victim of identity theft and how easy it can be to cyberbully. Internet safety cannot be stressed enough in young people because there can be dramatic, lifelong affects of unsafe internet use. I have friends that have cyberbullied and that have also stolen identities to create catfish accounts, and it appalls me to see such lack of respect for the gentleness of the internet. I love that you finished your post by saying “always make sure you are aware of what you are doing and stay alert to possible threats out there.” It would be great to see some more factually based evidence and statistics to create a stronger argument for your case. Here is a website that has some statistics for cyberbullying:
      https://www.dosomething.org/us/facts/11-facts-about-cyber-bullying
I am excited to see where this paper will end up going. I hope you really immerse yourself into this topic. I challenge you to question your friends and your community and make this more of a personally linked discovery rather than simply finding resources online.

    • Matthew,
I agree that it is very easy to become a victim of cyber bullying or identity theft if you are not careful about what you do and share online. I think that you are right about keepning accounts private and taking the time to protect yourself online. I think there is alot of danger in the amount of personal information that people post online nowadays that really makes them vulnerable online. S Sometimes I will catch myself doing this as well which is concerning to think about. Anyways this article talks about that a bit if you would like to check it out . https://internetsafety101.org/snsdangers. I would like to read more of your writing on this in the future.

    • Matthew,
I really enjoyed reading your post, but I would have loved to see statistics in how many people are affected by social media online. Most kids in our generation are on social media and it really takes a toll on how we see other people. Many people hide behind their screens to be a bully or to say something mean. I liked how you talked about complicating passwords with symbols and complex numbers. Here’s an article I thought you might like on statistics of people on social media: https://www.brandwatch.com/blog/96-amazing-social-media-statistics-and-facts-for-2016/
