I have chosen to include the picture of the USA and Mexico because it represents that I was born in the USA, my nationality, but have a family that was born in Mexico. I am a very proud of being a Latina, my race, because I have learned a lot from my family that was born in Mexico because it’s really hard for them to come to the US and really dangerous for them. And I decided to put them in my Shadow Box because they are some really strong people that have faced a lot of difficult things. This is a counter narrative to what people believe about immigrants and Latinos. Many people assume that women aren’t as strong as men because “women cry for men.” Also, because men get paid more than women and men have more privileges than women. But this is just a dominant narrative and not true. I have decided to put pictures of my friends and me and a necklace that says friends because it represents my friendship with my friends. My friendship is really important to me because my friends have been there for me and I don’t know what I would do with them if I never got to meet them. They are really special to me because I consider them as my sisters because they have always been there for me we all have went thru hell but we are still together. We have been together since 6th grade and I just like to spend time with them because we literally laugh at everything which makes it fun. Another object that I have included is the Virgen because mostly all Mexicans believe in the Virgen because the Virgen is the mother of Jesus and is recognized as the queen in Mexico. I chose to put that because it is part of my religion because I am Mexican and I believe in the Virgin and in Jesus.
