After reading chapter one of Jane Eyre, I have been inspired by many aspects of Charlotte Brontë’s story. This chapter opens with ten year old Jane, who was neglected and essentially abused by her family. Such alienation causes the value and innocence of childhood to be lost entirely. The events of chapter one remind me of a book I read in middle school, A Child Called “It,” which covers one of the most severe child abuse cases in history. Recalling both of these works, I think it would be interesting to write about a child recalling his or her corrupted childhood and wondering what the world would be like without the unnecessary complications brought about by their cruel family members.
