I am Kerly. I am 15 years old and I am from Ecuador. The most important thing you should know about me is that I like to dance. It has been my passion since I was two years old. My whole family is from Ecuador. I grew up in La Troncal, I lived most of my life there but then two years ago, I had to move to the United States. I was born in Ecuador and I have one sister and one brother. I live with my dad because my mom is in Ecuador and part of my family is in Ecuador so for that reason, I try to travel every year on vacation to be able to see my mom and the rest of my family.
At school, I am good at Spanish and History classes. I enjoy a lot of time with my family and communicating with them and my friends. I am a particularly good dancer. I have practiced a lot since I was two years old. I think my biggest struggle in life is communicating with other people because I am too shy and I have a hard time making friends.
My family is from Ecuador but part of my family is here in New York. It’s very difficult for me to have part of my family in another country. Sometimes I feel bad about that. My whole family is very important to me and I am fortunate to have the absolute support of them and friends. My family and friends are the most important people I have and I am very happy to have them in my life. I am very grateful to God for the people I have in my life.
Kerly, I believe dance is a beautiful form of art. Would you continue dancing after high school? What or who sparked your interest in dancing? My favorite classes are spanish and history because I do really well in those classes as well! I love my family and cannot imagine what you are going through. I hope life in the US becomes better as you spend more time here. I know being in your home, Ecuador, isn’t going to compare to the US, but I hope you’ve started feeling more at peace here.
I’m so glad you love to dance it is such a beautiful form of art. I’d also like to know your plans for dancing in the future. Do you plan to dance your whole life, teach dance, or study dance in college?
This was really good. I love to dance as well, it is a way to express myself. I would challenge you to talk more about how dance has helped you cope with the separation from your mom and when you like to dance the most. When you say, “I am a particularly good dancer…my biggest struggle is communicating…,” is there a way you could connect these two thoughts? I would love to read more about how dance helps you throughout life and if it connects you to your family.
I have no idea what it is like to have family in two different parts of the world but it seems like that it has been a challenge for you yet you are managing it well. I want to know though how that makes you feel and how you have an amazing support system around you even though they are so far away. Other than that, it was nice to be able to get to know you a little!
