In another week of researching the U.S. Radium Corporation’s destruction of the Radium Girls’ lives, I found another article that gives us some more insight. After my performance in a theatrical production of a historical show based on it, I believe this interview is quite helpful in showing the different data that was available at the time and that the company knew about the different Radium effects.
The article is a piece of an interview with the author of “Radium Girl”, a historical novel based on real-life events. It talks especially about the insight and knowledge that was available at the time and how that affected the decisions made by the different Radium Corporations. It tells us about the perspective of the girls and things they used to do that endangered them. For example, they say: “The seemingly magical substance in the paint that covered them — and gave them the name ”shining girls” — was, of course, highly radioactive”, showing again how this situation was in perspective and time.
Overall, this article gave more insight into the situation and of course more information about the company’s knowledge of radioactivity.
