Donald Trump’s Presidency has brought many people aware of immigration and illegal immigrants. Some people view this as Our Country is built from immigrants and we should always welcome people who are in search of a new/better life. On the other side of the argument people think the southern border is bringing drugs, gangs, and violence into the country illegally. In an article by thebestschools.org ; “As newcomers seek pathways into the U.S., those opposed to their entry have called for more restrictive immigration policies, stricter borders, and greater enforcement effort aimed at preventing illegal immigration”. Trump said that he will “Build a Wall” on the US/ Mexico border. Because Trump wants to build this wall, he is called racist because he wants to build a wall on the mexican border.
In 2017, there 10.5 million unauthorized immigrants in the US which is 3.2% of the U.S population. Also according to Pew Research Center, A rising share of illegal immigrants have been living in the us for more than a decade. This means most people in our country who are undocumented are working hard and doing good things for our country, and trying to change for the better.
My opinion on this topic is that people who want too should be coming here for a better life because of the privileges and freedom we have here. I am not from America but I just know the process to be called an american citizen took years and there was so much to do. I think that the process is long and hard for someone who has kids or needs something sudden to happen. I think there should be quicker ways for people without criminal records and things like that. Also though, I think that there needs to be security and heavy background checks.
I agree with what you said regarding the process to becoming a citizen takes too long. It took my parents 5 years to finally become a US citizen and they don’t regret it at all. We are a nation of immigrants but we are also a nation with laws. Immigration is a very serious topic and needs to be taken care of. As Cooper said, Donald Trump wanting to deal with illegal immigration has nothing to do with racism. Rather it is our president trying to fix this issue, and hopefully eliminating illegal immigrants. Immigrants are more than welcome into the country, just come in the right way like everyone else.
Dear khristina,
I am really excited of what you write. Your post is really interesting because you write about immigration things. Also when people come to the USA they come for a good job because they want to have more money to buy their things that they need. They also come to work hard everyday and send money to their families in mexico.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is when “we should always welcome people who are in search of a new/better life.” I think is a good thing you wrote because immigrants also have rights. No matter what the immigrants are part of the world and everybody from this world have rights.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because what you write gives me a lot of ideas.
Patricia
The reason Donald Trump wants to handle illegal immigration from Mexico is because an overwhelming amount of illegal immigrants who came here do in fact bring drugs and violence. While I do think that the “Build The Wall” idea is a bit far fetched and bad for the environment, there is nothing wrong with wanting to take care of illegal immigration and calling out the issue. You also must remember that the immigrants are literally coming here illegally when they have an option to immigrate legally. I understand the process of immigration is not easy but you must also understand that the United States has always had a more lax immigration policy compared to other countries and has throughout history. Donald Trump wanting to handle illegal immigration has nothing to do with racism or xenophobia of any kind, it is simply a president wanting to handle a country’s problem. For years presidents have been trying to tackle the issue. In fact, Obama deported more illegal immigrants than Trump.
