I celebrate who I am every second,
Every minute,
Of every day for the rest of my life.
I find happiness is every corner,
Find courage in every step,
And find hope in every drop from the hill.
I was pushed into a red and black place,
Trapped trying to escape,
Reaching for the little sunlight far away,
Where I could find my freedom.
My hands were tied without a rope,
My mouth was closed without a tape,
The drapes were open with no sunlight coming in.
One day, I reached the sun,
My hope increasing in every step I took to get to it,
I found the true me,
I found my heaven.
Celebration of life started,
Love was found,
The laughters,
The colors,
The air,
The sun,
The moonlight,
It all came in.
I saw the sunlight I didn’t see,
My hands were free,
My mouth was open,
All because I stayed strong.
The poem is written in the style of Walt Whitman’s poem, “Song of Myself”.
