What has Obama done since his presidency? What is his life like post presidency? Has Obama remained political? How is Obama’s personal life? After his presidency he moved into a 9 bedroom house in Washington. where he lived for two years while his daughter finished high school. In his retirement Obama has remained political. He has remained especially critical of his presidential predecessor Donald trump. As Trump had released many policy initiatives aimed at destroying all of the achievements Obama made during his presidency. In 2020 he was very critical of Trump’s handling of the coronavirus. He also appeared in a campaign video for Joe Biden.
He has also been a very involved civil rights activist. Him and Michelle even signed a deal with Netflix to produce a set of films “Touching on issues of race and class, democracy and civil rights and much more, we believe each of these productions won’t just entertain, but will educate, connect and inspire us all,” Obama says. Obama also participated and gave a speech against police brutality where he emphasized the importance of protesters.
As for his personal life Obama lost a great friend in 2020, congressman and civil rights activist John Lewis. Obama attended the funeral and gave the eulogy. Obama is also a proud parent as he was spotted on Harvard’s campus in 2017 as he was moving his daughter into her dorm room. He spoke about his feelings towards his daughter going away saying, “For those of us who have daughters, it just happens fast, I was proud that I did not cry in front of her but on the way back, the Secret Service was looking straight ahead pretending they weren’t hearing me as I sniffled and blew my nose. It was rough.”
It’s nice to hear that Obama is still staying so heavily involved in the political landscape of the US, even after his presidency. He has talked a lot about how he and his family are very relieved that he has finished his terms and is out of office, but seeing him stay in the mix is important.
Its interesting to hear what Obama’s been up to since leaving office. I think he was pretty cool guy, and I’m glad that he’s using his immense platform to speak out against police brutality. If Obama were here right now I’d tell him not to be embarrassed of crying when his daughter left.
