Climate change is creating more violent precipitation patterns around the world. Specifically is “high mountain” Asia. These areas are seeing a lot more rainfall and this much more landslides. Due to the steep terrain of these ares, landslides can be extra dangerous and have the potential to destroy towns or cut off water networks. Many places are seeing much drier stretches and then followed very wet seasons all year round. Water is a trigger puller for landslides and when there are wet spells appearing out of nowhere, they are moving a lot faster than ever before. Scientists are working to be able to read the patterns that wet and dry spells are causing on landslides, so they can predict when they will come and where. This would allow them to alert officials so they can clear people from the area and minimize deaths and side effects of the landslides.
