- Overcoming Obstacles to Achieve Your Dream

I have been a competitive swimmer since third grade. Everything about the sport for the past almost ten years has been difficult from learning to refine the technique of your strokes to pushing that last length of a race when you’re tired. The one mantra I’ve always had when it comes to swimming is that nothing comes without hard work. Every time I’ve ever not met goals that I’ve set for myself, it led me to put in more effort to work past the issue I’m facing. Had I not put in several years of hard work when I was faced with blocks, I wouldn’t be scoring in meets or getting the times I strive for like I do.
The times I had progressed the most was when I was taking extra steps to get better. Whenever I pushed myself to work just a little bit harder, I got results. Taking initiative may not be fun at all, but in the long run, it’s the only way to get better. If one puts in the work, the chances of not meeting goals become smaller.
I specifically remember the summer before I went into high school; I was dead set on becoming a better swimmer to make varsity freshman year. That whole summer outside of my regular four to five hours of swim practice, I dieted, worked out from thirty minutes to an hour and biked five miles a day. Needless to say, I did become a better swimmer; the improvement was marginally larger than in past years because I took the time to put in the extra work to become better. Although that ended up being a very dull summer vacation due to the time I put into bettering myself, I felt great about myself later as I was accomplishing goals that had felt impossible for myself just months before.
My experiences with swimming served as proof that hard work pays off. I couldn’t have gotten as far as I have without having put in the effort to better myself. I have learned that when hard work is put in, you can do anything and go anywhere.
Dear Sarah
Hard work…. it is amazing seeing one’s life progress through hard work. Your dedication for swimming, I can relate to that. I play almost all sports and when I lose… the feeling sucks. But. through a period of time you gain all this determination to work harder for your dreams. To walk the last step and gain the endurance to go the extra mile. You inspired me with your experience. You said,”I specifically remember the summer before I went into high school; I was dead set on becoming a better swimmer to make varsity freshman year.” I found this interesting because of the realization and the foundation you built your strength is upon the realization.
Dear Sarah :
I am inspired by your post, “Hard Work Pays Off,” because your post shows that without the determination to do something, you won’t be able to achieve it. To be good at something you have to practice. To get better at something, you have to work hard. That is what your post demonstrates.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “Every time I’ve ever not met goals that I’ve set for myself, it led me to put in more effort to work past the issue I’m facing. ” I think this is important because it shows that without something to work on, you can’t get better at something. It shows that everyone has to work on their problems and face their problems rather than running away from them or trying to ignore it.
Another sentence that I liked was: “Needless to say, I did become a better swimmer; the improvement was marginally larger than in past years because I took the time to put in the extra work to become better. .” This stood out for me because it showed that without your determination, you wouldn’t be able to achieve what you did and that you wouldn’t have been as successful.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next because your post was very inspiring and it shows that you can’t achieve something without working hard.
Dear Sarah,
This post was very interesting because I saw the result of working harder and achieving goals.
A sentence that stood out to me was “The times I had progressed the most was when I was taking extra steps to get better. Whenever I pushed myself to work just a little bit harder, I got results.” It inspired me to work harder than normal and achieve the goals I set for myself. I learned that to get better, you have to work harder than is expected from you.
Thank you for posting this article.
Dear Sarah:
I am touched by your post, “Hard work pays off,” because it inspired me to work harder everyday to achieve my dreams. You really taught me the true meaning of hard work, and how much effort and time it takes to become good at something.
One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “Whenever I pushed myself to work just a little bit harder, I got results. I think this is only true half the time because even if you work really hard, you will always have failures. There will always be someone better than you, who puts less effort into their work but still manages to be better than you. Sometimes, hard work isn’t enough. Maybe your naturally bad at something but nonetheless, I agree that hard work pays off to an extent. Another sentence that I disagreed with was: “ I have learned that when hard work is put in, you can do anything and go anywhere. ” I disagree with this because like I said, hard work can only make you good to a certain level, the rest is natural talent. Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because it’s cool to see another person’s perspective.
