In the article “FACT SHEET: New Findings Continue to Show California’s Gun Safety Laws Work” I learned that our mayor gavin newsom is trying to tackle the gun problems that have been going on for a long time by creating new laws. I the article it states “With California’s gun safety laws serving as a model for the nation, Governor Gavin Newsom is proposing a Right to Safety – an amendment to the United States Constitution to ensure communities across America can determine their own gun safety laws and to enshrine fundamental, broadly supported gun safety measures into law.” In his eyes this would lower the deaths occurring from guns;guns are a big problem because California is ranked as the #1 state for gun safety by Giffords Law Center, and the state saw a 43% lower gun death rate than the rest of the U.S.But over the years there has been a dramatic reduction in gun violence in Ca from the rest of the country so it shows it has been working but people buy the guns from another state.
This shows there are loopholes in gun control and are being taken advantage of and this is what I think is the problem since it doesn’t make a dramatic difference. This problem is what I think the government needs to focus more on. Not keep on adding more and more laws but focus on the faws the system has. In my eyes I think adding more laws would stop citizens being able to get guns rather than the ones committing the crimes from getting ghost guns.
As I keep researching more about this topic I hope to learn about other opinions about implementing new laws.
