Dear Snakes

You are a reference to Kevin Durant

You are quick and fierce

They say that floods and volcanoes will drive you away

They say very hot weather will make everybody disappear

That floods will wash you away

That the hot weather will melt you

They say that the island will vanish

That the volcanoes will fire off like fireworks

Dear snakes

No one’s going to melt

No one’s going to be washed away

No one’s going to vanish

No one is going to get hit by volcanoes

No one is going to get sick

And no one is going to lose their homes

Dear snakes

We are now striking for climate change to end

We are trying to help everybody stay safe from disasters

We are trying to use more solar power and save energy

And we are not going to let the snakes disappear

Mekhi Boyd

In this assignment we were asked to write a poem about fighting for climate change and different people in the world poem. For my poem, I wrote to snakes, why because they are all over the world, on flooded islands, lost and don’t know where to go and my city is based in Fiji because their islands are being destroyed, homes are underwater and people are leaving Fiji. When other people read this poem, I hope that they get my message about Fiji and how their life is being destroyed by climate change.
