Dear polar ice,
Pacific Walrus and Polar Bear
Emperor Penguin and Arctic Fox,
All of you living in the cold harsh weather that you need to thrive
Dear polar ice,
you are sweating your life force away
All of you, who have found refuge in the coldest edge of a burning marble in the middle of the vast universe…
Running from the edge of your home… Your melting, falling, sinking home.
Being crushed under the weight of their lies
Them.
The researchers who deny what they know they have done.
Them.
Those who pretend
We are going to stop them because you can’t…
Because you don’t have enough to stand up for what you do have…
Or what you did have.
We are going to use energy efficient light-bulbs and use public transport
We are going to stop them.
In this assignment I was asked to write a poem in the form of the poem “Matafele Peinem” by Kathy Jetnil-Kijner. For my poem I wrote about the animals living in the arctic and the ice that’s melting.
