I enjoyed getting together with other teachers from all over the country to just check-in, see how each of us was feeling… but also get a sense of what is next in our work together on NowComment and Youth Voices. At least I kept listening for what questions were coming up about our work with students. One thing I noticed last night — and just now in talking with Ms. Hernandez-Speer — is that there is a lot of questions about what we are doing. Could we do it better? What would engage youth more? Are my colleagues using a platform or an online tool that gets better results? How do we allow students space and time to think when we can’t see what they are really doing? And more… I guess this all shows — or I want to say — that we need to avoid jumping onto technological bandwagons, the next new glitzy thing. And I want to promote careful thinking and reading and writing and media making online — all focused on conversation.
