In the article, “Denying Abortion Access Has a Negative Impact on Children and Families” (Rioux, Roos, and Tomfohr-Madsen 2022) I learned that children already born and children born after being denied abortion access are affected mentally, physically, and academically. Statistics say children that weren’t wanted are more likely to have depressive and psychotic disorders or be involved in the criminal system. Unattended children have way lower academic achievements. Children also become neglected for their health and needs. They receive less education, and tend to miss milestones when developing.

I think this is important to know because children are being heavily impacted for something they have no control for. Children already existing in families also receive maltreatment and neglection. A mother being denied abortion access not only affects the mother but the family.

As I continue to learn about abortion, I want to know how mothers feel after having an abortion.
