In the BTW article, “You Decide: Cars That Stop Drunk Driving” (McGraw Hill), it states that President Biden’s infrastructure bill that was passed by congress last m nth demanded automakers to find a way to stop drunk drivers from driving cars. Some of these new possible safety systems may include infrared cameras or breathalyzer devices that would automatically pull your car over to the side to stop you from driving it. Although there are many different opinions on this topic. Some people argue that it would be a great thing because it would greatly reduce traffic accidents caused by drunk driving and save the lives of millions. Others argue that these new monitor systems might just become an inconvenience to people in their daily lives and that some of these systems could be inaccurate.

I think this is a good thing because 30% of traffic fatalities in America are caused by drunk drivers so this system would be saving the lives of many innocent people. As for the possible inaccurate systems, I’m sure there would be a test run on them before having them put on cars and selling them. Even if there’s a 1% chance of inaccuracy within the system we have to remember that when it comes to technology there’s always that small chance of faults in it. Overall, I think this would be a good thing because it’s better to be safe than sorry.

Do you agree that this new car system is a good thing?
