In the article “Raising Their Voices: Sports stars are speaking out about their mental health. Will their advocacy help younger athletes?” I learned that athletes are now speaking up about their mental health. Athletes have recently opened up about their mental struggles and the stresses of competing and living in front of the cameras. People assume that they are strong in every way because they are athletes. But they are human too and they have feelings and emotions. Most of them are under so much pressure and they are stressed out.

I think what is happening is very important to acknowledge. Mental health is very important. It is hard to express your feelings if people believe that athletes are not supposed to show signs of anything that would impact their physical or mental health, because we expect them to perform with such great strength and skill. The good thing is that athletes are increasingly speaking up.

What do you think? Should athletes keep speaking up?

Dear Lesly:

I am amazed by your post, “Athletes Mental Health,” because I think athletes mental health is important. The fact that athletes are starting to speak up is amazing because it will help them find help. Athletes go through a lot of stress and being able to help them is a good thing. There mental health should be important since they go through a lot of physical and mental challenges.

One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is: “People assume that they are strong in every way because they are athletes.” I think this is interesting because people should know that athletes go through a lot especially when they compete. Every sport has its benefits and determinants. Athletes should not be scared to talk about their feelings, we need be able to understand them no matter what.

Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next, because as an athlete I find it great that most of us are starting to speak out. I recently started speaking up on my mental health and trauma. It did take me time and it was hard but I’m glad I did it. I saw how many people care about me and helped me through my tough times.

Dear Lesly,
Reading your article made me realize that I along with the many other athletes in our school can possibly not be putting our mental health first when we should be prioritizing it. Something that stood out to me from your post “Athletes Mental Health” would be “Most of them are under so much pressure and they are stressed out.” I can defiantly relate to this because I know the pressure that they may feel because one simple mistake can lead to many mistakes just off of the one that was made. I believe athletes everywhere would speak up when they feel as though they need help.

Thank you for writing this piece I feel as though you were able to relate to many other athletes I look forward to seeing what you write next.

Dear Lesley
As an athlete myself, I am attracted to your contribution, “Athlete Mental Health.” The sentence you wrote  stands out to me. “People think they are strong in every way because they are athletes.” People shouldn’t assume what others are feeling because they don’t know what they are experiencing.
So I think it’s correct. I definitely agree with you. You need to be more careful about the feelings of others.
Thank you for  writing. You have chosen a very interesting subject and are looking forward to seeing what you will write next.

Dear Lesly

I am drawn to your post, “Athletes Mental Health” because I myself am an athlete. One sentence you wrote that stands out for me is ¨People assume that they are strong in every way because they are athletes. ” I think this is valid because people shouldn’t assume what others are feeling, because we never know what others are going through. I definitely agree with you on that. We need to be more considerate of other people’s feelings.
Thanks for your writing. I look forward to seeing what you write next because you picked a very interesting topic.
