In researching for an essay about solutions to the many problems in the criminal justice system, I came across multiple articles that were very helpful on understanding overpopulated prisons, and the mass incarceration that is currently taking place in America. Many of the articles mentioned that the US has the largest prison population in the world, even though incarceration rates have dropped significantly in recent years (11% since 2007). The First Step Act was also mentioned multiple times because of how it is trying to change the
Overall, the majority of what has been presented in these sources is related to prison overpopulation, incarceration rates in the US, and prison sentence length. This will be very useful to my research.
