According to BIOTECanada “a vaccine is a substance that is introduced into the body to prevent infection or to control disease due to a certain pathogen, which is a disease-causing organism, such as a virus, bacteria or parasite. The vaccine “teaches” the body how to defend itself against the pathogen by creating an immune response.” Vaccines are seen as a very important thing although they can be a very controversial topic. There are allegations surrounding the use of vaccinations which claim that vaccinations give us more diseases and can be linked to autism. Whether these allegations are true or not vaccinations carry many other benefits.
Vaccinating children is a vital part of keeping children safe and healthy. Vaccines not only help from getting one individual sick but they also have beneficial effects on past and future generations. Having vaccines be mandatory can be the next step to fully eradicating viruses and diseases from this world. For example vaccines.gov state, “By vaccinating children against rubella (German measles), the risk that pregnant women will pass this virus on to their fetus or newborn has been dramatically decreased, and birth defects associated with that virus no longer are seen in the United States.” The pro’s for this social issue outweigh the cons on many different levels.
In a more perfect world we would not require any vaccines to be mandatory because Parents would educate themselves about the diseases that vaccines prevent and learn that although vaccines are not free of risk, their benefits clearly outweigh their risks. People argue that vaccines are dangerous to children and can cause other diseases because of the substances in the vaccines. And the biggest statement that is most argued on Procon.org is that “Mandatory vaccines infringe upon constitutionally protected religious freedoms. Several religions oppose vaccines and mandatory vaccinations. The First Amendment of the US Constitution states, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof.” This is true but for the good of the entire world it should be amended in the constitution that vaccines are mandatory.

Ruby, I feel vaccines really help the population and should be taken when possible. If they are helping decrease the diseases or viruses that are not happening maybe they should be mandatory. If it’s linking to other causes of things and it’s not really showing a large number or increase for certain things the vaccinations are defiantly the way to go. It would seem taking the vaccination is doing more good then harm.
